HP StorageWorks 60 Modular Smart Array

Manage your small and midrange business growing storage needs by deploying this low cost, flexible tiered storage system with up to 3.6TB of SAS storage or 9TB of SATA storage per enclosure or up to 72TB (eight enclosures). The modular, scalable design of the MSA60 provides a flexible platform allowing you to buy what is needed today and purchase additional capacity as data storage needs grow, instead of making a large up-front investment. For small businesses, it is a stepping stone to simplify capacity expansion of HP ProLiant or HP Integrity server environments to external storage without having to make the full move to SAN or NAS.

For fast growing small or medium businesses MSA60 can scale to multiple Terabytes, by adding additional drive bays. This enclosure is designed to support the 3.5” hard drive supporting the mixing of SAS and SATA drives in the same enclosure. Configuration and setup is easy with HP Array Configuration Utility (ACU). The 2U storage supports direct attach storage to HP ProLiant and HP Integrity Servers. Enclosures can be cascaded in a 1+3 configuration allowing a maximum of 48 drives in an 8U configuration behind each of the two external ports on the HP Smart Array P800 or the HP Smart Array E500 Controller for a total of 96 drives in 4 enclosures. Behind the single external port on the HP Smart Array P600 Controller or the HP SC44Ge Host Bus Adapter 1+3 cascading allows a maximum of 48 drives in a 4U configuration.

Add a second I/O Module and transition from single domain to dual domain for higher levels of redundancy and reliability reducing or eliminating single points of failure within your storage network. The addition of the I/O Module with the HP SC44Ge HBA adds support for Multi-Initiator JBOD Clusters. This will support HP-UX and OpenVMS on HP Integrity servers only (no ProLiant support). Support for HP Serviceguard software is on HP-UX with HP-UX 11iv2 and 11iv3 only.

What's new

HP StorageWorks Dual Domain I/O Module Option Kit - field upgrade option for dual domain:

* Creates redundant pathways from servers to storage devices to reduce or eliminate single points of failure within the storage network, providing increased levels of high availability with redundant paths from the controller to the drives.
* Adds support for Multi-Initiator JBOD Clusters. I/O Module Option with the HP SC44Ge Host Bus Adapter will support HP-UX and OpenVMS on selected HP Integrity Servers only.
* Support for HP Serviceguard software on HP-UX with HP-UX 11iv2 and 11iv3 only.

Features and Benefits

* Value: Affordable capacity in small footprint - MSA60 provides end-to-end SAS host modular flexible platform in a high capacity 2U disk drive external direct storage system.
* Agility: Supports SAS and SATA drives - Flexibility to mix and match SAS/SATA drives in the same enclosure. Extends benefit of tiered storage to direct attach customers.
* Simplicity: Investment protection - Modular platform allows customers to purchase based on current need and future growth, no hidden management charges.
* Deployment and manageability - Manage the array with the highly refined HP Systems Insight Manager.
* Cascadeable - Up to 4 enclosures can be connected together to form a single controller port. Grow storage capacity easily.
* Hot plug drives, power and cooling - Remove/replace/add components when system is running. No service disruption.
* Redundant power and cooling - Failure of a power supply or fans does not interrupt system functioning. Increased reliability.
* Supports RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5, 6 with ADG (dependent on Smart Array Controller used) - RAID levels provide various levels of data protection and availability. RAID level choices provide flexibility. RAID 6 with ADG provides additional level reliability.
* HP Portfolio – end-to-end solution - HP offers a complete portfolio of SAS storage enclosure, Smart Array Controllers and HP ProLiant Servers for end-to-end solutions leading the competition.
* Dual Domain - Provides higher levels of redundancy and reliability reducing or eliminating single points of failure within a storage network.
