Yamaha DRX-1 DVD+RW Recorder

POWERFUL HOME SYSTEM DVD+RW RECORDER
The DRX-1 DVD+RW format video recorder offers all the advantages of the +RW format, while adhering to Yamaha's high standards for quality and design. The DRX-1 is capable of recording DVD+RW and DVD+R discs, and playing back all types of DVDs and CDs, including SVCDs. Outstanding features include Index Picture Screen, versatile editing functions, four recording modes, Auto Chapter Marker, Progressive Scan Output with DCDi, and iLINK for connecting a digital camcorder.

DVD+RW/+R RECORDING
The DRX-1 makes it easy to record from the TV or from a digital camcorder onto rewritable or write-once DVD discs. This ensures high digital quality as well as long term storage without worry about quality degradation.

FULL PLAYBACK COMPATIBILITY
The DRX-1 will play all types of DVDs and CDs, including CD-R/RW and SVCD discs (except DVD-RAM discs. Furthermore, discs recorded on the DRX-1 can be played on virtually all DVD-Video players, as well as most DVD-ROM drives in computers.

PROGRESSIVE SCANNING WITH DCDi PROCESSING
The DRX-1 has a 3:2 Pull-Down Progressive circuit to convert 24 frame per second film images to 60 frame per second video images. Yamaha uses a pattern detection algorithm that reassembles the frames exactly as they should look, so the picture has higher resolution and better color quality. It also offers DCDi, a processing technique that eliminates the jagged edges that generally appear in moving images when interlaced video is converted to progressive. DCDi makes a clearly visible difference and is a very desirable feature.

INDEX PICTURE SCREEN
After one or more recordings have been made, the online screen display shows small "Index Pictures" - the first scene of each segment (called a "Title") that has been recorded. The source, length, date, time and recording mode are also displayed. This gives the user a handy overview of the entire contents of the disc. Each Title can be selected for play or for erasing. Titles can be divided into two at any point and can also be given names. Each Title can also have 99 chapter markers, which can be inserted automatically or manually.

QUICK AND EASY SELECTIVE ERASING
This is a major advantage of the DVD+RW recorder. It's extremely easy for users to select which parts of a recording they want to delete. This is great for removing the commercials from TV programs and for removing unwanted scenes from camcorder recordings. Changes do not need to be finalized, so the disc can always be used as is. The edited disc will play with no problems on DVD-Video players.

FOUR RECORDING MODES
The DRX-1 provides four different modes for making recordings. High Quality offers the best possible quality, with a recording length of one hour. Standard Play+ is the normally excellent DVD-Video quality, with a recording length of 2.5 hours, so even long movies can be recorded. Extended Play and Extended Play + are both superior to ordinary video tape, in lengths of 4 and 6 hours, respectively. Therefore, both in terms of quality and length, DVD+RW is superior to video tape.

iLINK DIGITAL VIDEO INPUT
The DRX-1 has an iLINK DV input (IEEE 1394) for connecting a digital home video source such as a digital camcorder, making it possible for home videos to be edited and stored on DVD discs. This is also great for copying old and highly treasured recordings. At the highest quality level, there is no difference between the original source and the recording on the DVD+RW disc.
