NEC UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR PBX System

The UNIVERGE™ NEAX® IPS-DMR is designed as an IP Remote PIM offering for NEC's NEAX 2000 IPS product family.  When connected to the host UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 IPS or UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DML, the UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR provides PBX feature transparency for remote location networking over IP while offering a robust survivability solution and features not commonly found in many competing solutions. Designed specifically as an IP Remote PIM (Physical Interface Module) application, the UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR cannot be used as a standalone system.

The UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR is designed primarily for distributed IP networking but also supports traditional analog and digital trunks for connection to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR supports up to 128 peer-to-peer IP stations and 56 TDM ports in a single modular chassis. Up to two chassis can be stacked providing maximum capacity of 112 TDM ports while still supporting as many as 128 peer-to-peer IP stations. With requisite NEC software, each host can accommodate up to 30 UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR s, up to 30 ISDN PRI and up to 255 hosts can be networked together.

The UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR minimizes hardware costs by utilizing the same chassis and therefore the same line/trunk and application processor cards as the UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 IPS and UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DML Offering superior port density, the UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR includes 19" rack mounting, and each chassis only occupies two Rack Units.

In the event of a WAN failure, the UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR enables the remote local PBX processor to provide basic call processing and allows normal business continuity via a back-up PSTN through the duration of the failure.

The UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR allows you to extend features available at headquarters over an IP WAN remote location with minimal incremental cost.  Features are transparent regardless of physical location because the system regards host and remote site terminals as extensions in the same office.  As a result, you are able to leverage your investment in the UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 IPS and UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DML and other NEC solutions such as CallCenterWorX®, NEAXMail® or Unified Messaging.

Each UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR is equipped with a remote survivable processor connected through distributed networking, giving all remote locations the benefits of redundancy and local survivability during WAN failure. The UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR can accommodate AP cards such as ISDN PRI, T1 and Central Office trunks to provide flexible PSTN back-up connectivity.

UNIVERGE™ NEAX IPS-DMR FEATURES

The UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR provides a unique set of advantages to users who seek an advanced information system that is both flexible and dependable. Through the use of state-of-the-art computer controlled telecommunications technology, NEC is able to provide the following highlighted advantages:

Full-Featured System
UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR station users have access to hundreds of service features that can be used to build unique telephony applications that enhance user productivity, reduce operating costs and improve communication efficiency.

Network Integration
The UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR offers business, industries, government agencies, hospitals and hotel/motels the ability to access an extensive array of information processing and management services by serving as the central controller of an integrated information network. The UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 product line offers a total network solution with Common Channel Inter-Office Signaling (CCIS) and/or IP Remote PIM (IPRP).

The UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 IPS and UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DM provide peer-to-peer IP CCIS capability while maintaining the full feature set available with the TDM switched CCIS. Peer-to-peer CCIS connectivity also allows for reduced PBX hardware costs by eliminating the need for CCIS trunk interface cards.

CCIS is built on the Signaling System 7 (SS7) call control system commonly used in today's global carrier networks. This functional and extremely flexible "intelligent network" capability allows two or more UNIVERGE NEAX telecommunications systems to be networked together to provide feature transparency and to centralize many important telecommunications functions such as attendant consoles, call accounting / billing systems, voice processing systems, management systems and trunk facilities, to name a few.

The UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR IPRP solution enables the PBX to provide call handling from a central (main) location. All smaller branch offices can be connected by IP WAN via their own local PBX processors, creating a converged enterprise voice and data network. Small office sites under normal operation are now able to cost-effectively leverage the call processing, ACD Agents, Voice Mail with Live Record, Unified Messaging and other telephony applications maintained at the host site. In the event of a WAN failure, IPRP enables the remote local PBX processor to provide basic call processing and allows normal business continuity via a back-up PSTN through the duration of the failure.

Flexible Line Size
Innovative modular hardware and software design allows the UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 IPS and UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR to efficiently serve from 8 ports up to 120 ports. Modularity gives the system the ability to expand from its minimum configuration to its maximum capacity as the need arises. This expansion capability allows the system to grow in a cost-effective manner as the user requirements expand. Your initial system investment is protected through easy-to-implement growth capability.

Flexible Interface Ports
The UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR employs a Universal Port Architecture that has the flexibility to accommodate station terminal equipment, trunks and adjunct processors. This universality allows the UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR to optimize use of slot space and thereby lowers expansion costs.

Intelligent Digital Multifunction Terminal
In addition to supporting conventional station equipment, the UNIVERGE NEAX IPS-DMR can be equipped with the Dterm series digital electronic multifunction terminals. The Dterm terminals are intelligent microprocessor controlled terminals, which enhance the feature capabilities offered by the system and provide the service of conventional key telephones over 1-pair wiring. The Dterm instrument may be equipped with an interface adapter to allow simultaneous voice and data switching, without compromising the voice communication system.
