Yamaha RX-V1 Natural Sound Home Theater Receiver

FLAGSHIP HOME THEATER RECEIVER
8-channel receiver for finest performance and processing available for music and video sound. 8 channels are: L/R Main, Front Center, L/R Rear Effects, Rear Center, and L/R Front Effects (adds depth to sound image). Yamaha's Cinema DSP and Tri-Field Processing are included as are Dolby Surround Pro Logic and Dolby Digital processing. Also features Digital ToP-ART design for signal integrity, compatible with Panja, Crestron and other touch pad interfaces.

DIGITAL ToP-ART DESIGN
Yamaha's Digital ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction) design philosophy maximizes digital quality and minimizes analog circuitry. Specifics include high performance digital circuitry using Burr-Brown 24-bit DACs for all input channels, a digitally regulated volume control, processor direct switch, high density Cinema DSP circuitry, utilizing the world's first 44-bit LSIs, two decoding LSIs, and low impedance drive amplifier featuring superior power transistors, and gigantic heat sinks.

DISCRETE POWER TRANSISTORS
Discrete power transistors rather than IC chips are used in the amplifier section to provide the cleanest sound possible. The amp delivers 110 watts each to six channels and 35 watts each to the two front effects channels.

54 SOUND FIELD MODES
Includes 70mm Cinema DSP, Tri-Field Processing DSP, Digital DSP, digital Matrix 6.1 and DTS ES Yamaha's exclusive DSP for music recreates the acoustic personalities of actual venues, the Roxy Theater in L.A., Village Gate in N.Y., Anaheim Stadium, concert halls and churches in Europe. New soundfields include NYC's Bottom Line and Entertainment modes. 35mm and 70mm Cinema DSP multiplies the effects of Dolby Pro Logic and Yamaha DSP to provide the best possible Pro Logic movie theater recreation.

BUILT-IN DOLBY DIGITAL
Discrete surround is the most advanced and realistic encoded surround sound for movies. The new Dolby Digital system is a fully discrete system providing 5.1 channels of sound. Five are full-frequency channels, and the sixth is a low frequency effects channel.

BUILT-IN DTS
Like Dolby Digital, DTS is a discrete 5.1 channel system. It uses a higher bit-rate for greater resolution and is available on DVDs, laser discs, and music CDs.

DIGITAL MATRIX 6.1 AND DTS ES
The lastest technology for movie theaters, 6.1-channel surround is now available for the home. The additional channel provides a rear center for a more complete surround experience. Utilizing a 5.1-channel Dolby Digital or DTS signal, Yamaha's Matrix Decoder automatically extracts a rear center signal. If the rear channel is a stereo multi-channel signal, the effect can be turned on manually, even without an identification signal.

TRI-FIELD PROCESSING
Yamaha's exclusive Tri-Field Processing which applies Digital Sound Field Processing technology to Dolby Digital and DTS to create a true movie theater experience in the home. It develops independent enhanced sound fields for the front signals as well as for left and right surround.

DOLBY PRO LOGIC
Still a very popular format for movie surround sound and superbly handled by the RX-V1.

SILENT CINEMA
Building on its world famous "silent" musical instruments, Yamaha has added HRTF (Head Related Transfer Functions) and "Virtual" technology to create a realistic surround movie effect using standard headphones.

NEW YAMAHA DESIGNED IC CHIPS
Yamaha has designed and employed single function IC chips, called ASICs -- Application Specific Integrated Circuits -- for the RX-V1. ASICs are more efficient than multi-function chips and provide the most accurate decoding possible. Yamaha's YSS-918 and YSS-908 are ASICs which together provide Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic, DTS, Cinema DSP, and Tri-Field Processing. In addition, the RX-V1 utilizes a pair of Yamaha YSS-910s, the world's first 44-bit DSP LSIs.

6-CHANNEL INPUTS FOR EXTERNAL DECODER
The RX-V1's rear panel has input jacks to accommodate an external 6-channel decoder, making the receiver ready for DVD-Audio, or any other 5.1 channel format, should one be developed.

AUTO PRIORITY INPUT SELECTION
When different input formats are connected from the same source, the RX-V1 automatically prioritizes them and selects in order AC-3 RF, coaxial digital, optical digital, and finally the analog input.

AUTO SOUND DECODER
The RX-V1 senses a DTS or Dolby Digital signal and will automatically switch the receiver to the appropriate mode when the signal is detected. The selected mode is displayed on front panel.

ON-SCREEN DISPLAY WITH SPEAKER TEST MODE
Allows you to easily establish, change, and adjust settings from across the room. The on-screen display gives you a visual readout of the receiver's settings on your TV or monitor screen. The on-screen speaker test mode makes it easier to balance speaker output from your listening position.

CUSTOM INSTALLATION COMPATIBLE
The RX-V1's back panel incorporates an RS-232C port which can be used for connecting a Panja, AMX, or similar type touch pad controller. It provides interactive control functions beyond those of a standard remote control. There is also a Zone 2 output for multi-room capability.

NEW LEARNING AND PROGRAMMABLE REMOTE CONTROL
The advanced remote control with the RX-V1 has learning capability and can be programmed for up to 15 macros, so it can perform a sequence of functions at the touch of a single button. The keypad is back-lit for easy operation in a dimly lit home theater. The remote control can select speaker set A or B and adjust the subwoofer volume.

SEVEN DIGITAL INPUTS
The RX-V1 can accommodate seven digital sources DVD, CD, LD, Cable/Sat, VCR 1, D-TV, and MD. The CD, DVD, and Cable/Sat inputs have both optical and coaxial digital connections.

FOUR AUDIO AND 8 AUDIO/VIDEO INPUTS
The RX-V1 is a versatile receive incorporating four sets of audio-only inputs and 8 pairs of A/V inputs. All the video inputs have RCA jacks and S-video terminals. Includes one set of A/V inputs on the front panel for fast and easy connection.

COMPONENT VIDEO INPUTS
The RX-V1 also incorporates 3 sets of component video inputs. They are for DVD, D-TV, & CBL/SAT and are also fully assignable to another video input source. Bandwidth is DC-100 MHz - 3dB and is fully capable of passing HDTV signals.

PRE/MAIN COUPLING
Back-panel couplers for the main left and right and center channels make it easy to insert outboard equalizers or other processing.

PRE-OUTS FOR ALL OTHER CHANNELS INCLUDING SUBWOOFER
The front and rear effects channels, rear center channel, and subwoofer all have pre-out connections. This allows you to add outboard amplification and direct subwoofer connection.

LOW IMPEDANCE DRIVE CAPABILITY AND IMPEDANCE SWITCHING
Yamaha's famed low impedance drive circuitry is included in this receiver so that it can handle virtually all loads and a wide variety of speakers. For further speaker matching, the amplifier can set for either 4- or 8-ohm speakers.

LINEAR DAMPING FACTOR CIRCUIT
The advantage of full range, 20 to 20,000 Hz, damping is that it improves the definition and resolution of the sound output throughout the audible frequency range.

RECORD OUT SELECTOR
You can listen to one source and record another.

BASS EXTENSION CONTROL
Accentuates the bass by adding a 7 dB boost at around 70 Hz.

PROCESSOR DIRECT SWITCH
The RX-V1 has a Processor Direct Switch that when engaged, provides a direct signal connection between the processor board and the power amplifier section. As a result, the digital volume device avoids the wiring on the circuit board, thus bypassing all control circuits. This shortens the signal path, feeding the pure, robust signal directly to the eight amplification channels for cleaner, more efficient operation and higher quality sound.

A/B SPEAKER SELECTOR
Allows selection of either main speakers, or a second pair, or both.

SLEEP TIMER
Permits a delayed receiver turn off. You can set it for up to two hours in 30 minute increments.

40-STATION DIRECT ACCESS PRESET TUNING
Up to 40 preset AM and FM stations can be grouped in five groups eight stations. These groupings make it easy for family members to easily access their favorite stations or to have musical genres, such as all the jazz stations, grouped together.

BINDING POST SPEAKER TERMINALS
Yamaha's heavy-duty binding post speaker terminals accept banana plugs, spade connectors, and a variety of speaker wire, including heavy gauge cable.
